Find your Darakaraka — the planet Jaimini astrology reads as your spouse — from your date, time and place of birth.
Darakaraka is the planet with the lowest degree within its sign among the chara karakas. Jaimini astrology reads it as the significator of your spouse. This calculator computes your chart with the Swiss Ephemeris and Lahiri ayanamsa — the same engine as MilanYog’s paid reading — inside your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere. No signup.
Jaimini astrology assigns life roles to planets by degree, not by fixed nature. These roles are the chara karakas — “movable significators”, because they change from chart to chart. The planet that has travelled furthest through its sign becomes the Atmakaraka (the self). The one that has travelled least becomes the Darakaraka — dara means spouse.
So your Darakaraka is a personal answer: in one chart it is Venus, in another Saturn, in another the Moon. Its nature, the sign it sits in, its nakshatra and its navamsa sign together describe the kind of partner the chart points to.
Seven or eight karakas?
The eight-karaka scheme includes Rahu; the seven-karaka scheme leaves it out. Both are taught. MilanYog’s reading uses eight. When the two schemes disagree for your chart, the calculator shows both, so you are not handed a confident answer that depends on a choice you did not know was made.
| Darakaraka | Spouse indications |
|---|---|
| Sun | Dignified, self-respecting, often from a respected family or with authority at work. Pride on both sides needs care. |
| Moon | Caring, emotional, home- and family-oriented. Moods matter in the relationship. |
| Mars | Energetic, direct, protective and competitive. Passion and arguments both run hot. |
| Mercury | Youthful, witty, talkative, intellectual or business-minded; often looks younger than their age. |
| Jupiter | Wise, ethical, learned; a guide or teacher figure. A supportive, steady marriage. |
| Venus | Attractive, artistic, romantic and comfort-loving. A strong pull toward beauty and pleasure. |
| Saturn | Mature, responsible, serious and hardworking; may be older, or the marriage may come later. Built to last. |
| Rahu | Unconventional: a different background, culture, caste or country is common. Magnetic, with unusual circumstances around the match. |
These are tendencies. The sign, nakshatra and navamsa of the Darakaraka colour them, and the rest of the chart can strengthen or soften them. For what the chart says about looks specifically, see spouse appearance in astrology.
The 7th house and its lord describe marriage as an area of life — when and how it unfolds. The Darakaraka describes the spouse as a person. The navamsa (D9) is the divisional chart traditionally read for marriage, and the Darakaraka’s sign there adds detail. A careful reading uses all three; any one alone gives a partial picture. You can draw your D9 with the free navamsa chart calculator.
MilanYog’s reading combines the Darakaraka with your 7th house, navamsa and dasha periods: when marriage is likely, what your partner is like, where you may meet, and Manglik with every cancellation.

The chara karaka with the lowest degree within its sign. Jaimini astrology reads it as the significator of your spouse.
Both are taught. The eight-karaka scheme includes Rahu; MilanYog uses it. When the schemes disagree for your chart, the calculator shows both answers.
No. The 7th house describes marriage as an area of life; the Darakaraka describes the spouse as a person. Read them together.
Usually not, because planets other than the Moon move slowly. The Moon moves about half a degree an hour, so when it sits near the bottom of the ranking, the time can change the answer. The calculator tells you when that is the case.
No chart names a person. The Darakaraka describes a type — temperament, background, the feel of the match — not an identity.
