Each of the 27 nakshatras has four padas (quarters), and each pada has a starting syllable. Traditionally a child’s name was chosen from the syllable of their birth nakshatra pada — so the name points back to the Moon’s position at birth. Roman spelling hides some differences (ट/त “ta”, ड/द “da”, ण/न “na”), so the calculator shows the common reading first and lets you choose the other.

The score is not the whole story
Two charts can score 28 and still carry Nadi or Bhakoot dosha; others score 17 with cancellations that make them workable. Manglik status is not part of the 36 gunas at all. Name-based matching is quick and needs nothing but two names, which is why so many families start with it. Its weakness is the assumption that each name was chosen from the birth nakshatra — many everyday names were not.
