The shadow planet of desire in the house of the partner — the match that breaks the family’s script.
Short answer: Rahu in the 7th is read as an unconventional marriage: a partner from a different background, culture, caste, religion or country, intense attraction, and sometimes confusion or sudden turns. Ketu then sits in your 1st house. It is not a curse on marriage; it is a strong pull toward the unusual, and its sign and dispositor decide how it lands.
The 7th house sits directly opposite the 1st. The 1st is you; the 7th is the other person — marriage, the spouse and partnership. Three things are read together: the sign on the 7th, the planets in it, and where the 7th lord has gone (see 7th lord in each house). Rahu in the 7th answers only the middle one. The timing method is in when will I get married.
Rahu, the north lunar node, signifies desire, ambition, the foreign and the unconventional. It amplifies whatever house it occupies. In the 7th it makes partnership a field of strong wanting — and of illusion, if you do not look clearly. Rahu and Ketu always sit opposite each other, so Ketu is in your 1st house, adding detachment toward yourself. In the common school Rahu also aspects the 11th and 3rd houses from here.
From the 7th house, Rahu aspects the 1st (self and body), the 11th (gains and friends) and the 3rd (courage and siblings).
Classically a magnetic, modern, ambitious or unusual partner, often from outside your community or from abroad. Attraction can feel fated or obsessive. Secrecy, sudden events and mixed signals are the risks; honesty and time are the antidote.
Traditional descriptions make the Rahu spouse striking or unusual-looking, stylish or modern, and different from what the family expected. An unusual age gap is one of the traditional possibilities. See spouse appearance in astrology.
Technology, foreign companies, media, aviation, research, politics and unconventional fields are Rahu’s traditional areas. Treat these as traditional associations, not a job title.
Online, abroad, through unusual circumstances, or suddenly.
Good: an exciting, worldly partner and freedom from convention. Hard: confusion, secrecy and mismatched expectations. Rahu’s dignity is debated; many place its exaltation in Taurus, which is the 7th for a Scorpio ascendant.
The 7th takes a different sign for each ascendant, so the same placement means different things. These are the ascendants where Rahu’s dignity changes in the 7th:
| Ascendant | Rahu in the 7th is in | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Scorpio | Taurus | exalted (common view; debated) |
| Taurus | Scorpio | debilitated (common view; debated) |
A placement says what; the Vimshottari dasha says when. A Rahu mahadasha runs 18 years, and the Rahu–Rahu antardasha inside it lasts 2 years 8 months 12 days (18 × 18 ÷ 120 years). Marriage windows open in periods of the 7th lord, Venus, Jupiter — and of Rahu when it occupies the 7th — and are confirmed by the D9 navamsa and Jupiter–Saturn transits. Windows, not dates.
The honest limits
Rahu in the 7th promises neither a marriage nor a particular kind of person, and it never names anyone. It is one factor: the 7th lord, the Darakaraka, the navamsa and the running dasha can strengthen or soften everything above. Birth time decides whether Rahu is in your 7th at all — the ascendant moves a degree every four minutes.
Durga prayer, honesty in the relationship, and taking time before big decisions are the traditional, free remedies. Nobody should sell you an expensive ritual without showing you the exact placement it is meant to address.

Not by itself. It points to an unconventional partner and intense attraction; honesty and patience decide how it goes.

An unusual age gap is one of the traditional possibilities, not a rule. The whole chart decides.
A foreign spouse or settling abroad is a traditional Rahu theme, especially with links to the 9th or 12th houses.
